An Unexpected Journey.
What began as a hobby design project for my Dungeons & Dragons group quickly became a global tabletop gaming accessory brand after an incredibly successful Kickstarter campaign. Being a founder granted me the unique opportunity to direct nearly every aspect of the company, from product design and branding identity to digital marketing and social media engagement.
Starting a business has been such a profound and overwhelming experience and could never be summarized in a single paragraph, and the skills I've honed and the perspective I've gained have made me an exponentially stronger creative.
Building a Kickstarter
The perfect platform to build a brand from scratch, cultivate a community, and crowdfund a project. Being a first time entrepreneur and a newcomer to the Dungeons & Dragons hobby space, Kickstarter was a natural choice. All we needed was a compelling video, attractive rewards, and a smooth backer experience.
Design and Production
This was the easy part. The project was built around what I found to be good design for tabletop gaming, and now with funding, I could really dive deep and enjoy the process. My experience in global retail design and commercial animation made designing for global product production relatively smooth.
A Niche Within a Niche.
Marketing a specialized product to a small, but fiercely passionate, audience is incredibly challenging, especially in an under-served market like the Tabletop Roleplaying Game industry. My experience with global corporate brands helped me create a sharp and polished brand image, but I would have to get creative in finding the target audience and hit them with engaging content and advertisements.
